The Yamaha RM1x Hip Hop and R&B Groove Library comprises no less than 25 brand new and highly cool hip hop/R&B grooves created by Ron E Beck, one-time Tower Of Power drummer and now sought-after East Bay producer and recording artist.

Ranging from sparse and slinky R Kelly/TLC type grooves, to earthy funk, to raw, up front grooves not so much in your face as down your throat, they all can of course be remixed, stretched, and deconstructed on the fly using the RM1x's realtime knobs and performance controls.

What's in a groove? A Drum Sample ?

Each groove has a wide variety of independently controllable drum/percussion parts, plus bass, keys, guitar, synths, and custom effects. Grooves range from 4 to 16 bars in length.

But that's not all. Keyfax has trawled their vaults looking for all those juicy outtakes that didn't make it onto some of the more sober MIDI sample volumes and have added a further 96 individual instrument licks that you can cut and paste into any pattern, to build or spice it up. Guitar lines, basslines, drumloops, synth parts, and even some snakey trumpet and sax phrases.

Everything comes in native (R1P) format. Yep, just insert the floppy, find an empty pattern, and hit load. You get the right sounds, effects, and tempo instantly.

The RM1x can also load in Standard MIDI File MID files, so the entire Keyfax Twiddly.Bits library can be used as yet more raw material. The process is explained step-by-step in the owner's manual so it's perfectly doable.

The grooves are stored in native RM1x format (R1P) on floppy disk. Just insert the disk, select a groove, hit Load and Play and the sounds, tempo, and alternate grooves will all be right there in front of you, begging you to start being creative. It's that simple.

Keyfax drew from a wide pool of players and programmers including Tower Of Power alumni Ron E Beck (check out his storming BFunk! groove), Zigaboo Modeliste keyboardist Dale Ockerman (New Orleans swing and more), and some twisted modern hip hop/funk from Keyfax's own young beatslicer Bill Turner.

Fully instrumented, along with multilayered drums, each groove comes with many alternates, fills, breakdowns, and intros.

Not only are there hundreds of bars of complete funk grooves, the disk also contains no less than 16 (each) individual drum loops, bass, guitar, electric piano, clavi, and synth parts that you can use as source material to build custom grooves or simply '"funkify" your own.
